Plotting Coordinates
Concept
Understand the concept of X-Y co-ordinates, as a way of getting locating objects on a map.
Theory
By convention, there are four quadrants, running in anticlockwise manner. The horizontal line is the X-axis and it runs from -negative, to zero, to positive. Likewise for the Y axis, but again by convention, the Y-axis happens to be horizontal. With these two axes, you can locate any position using a single (x,y) coordinate.
Common Misconceptions
- Imagining the coordinates to be (y, x) instead of (x, y)
- Getting confused with negative numbers.
